deepblue

deepblue is a company and production structure for performance, dance, music, video and installation work, based in Brussels, founded and directed by choreographers Heine Avdal and Yukiko Shinozaki and media artist Christoph De Boeck. The name deepblue refers to an immense microcosm as well as to that supercomputer which for the first time won a match from a human in an intellectual game. deepblue aims at balancing human and technological forms of communication. In all productions traces are left of this destroyed opposition between what is organic and what is artificial. Spatiality, information processing and replication are returning themes in the output of the three individual artists and in their collaborative work. Video, sound, light and distribution of space are equal elements in the development of creations, just as dancers, performers and audience are.

Hortus @ Festival van Vlaanderen Kortrijk

Hortus by Christoph De Boeck and Patricia Portela
Christoph De Boeck and Patricia Portela transform the natural garden soundscape: birdsong and other sounds are remapped according to what seems most profitable in that split second. Electronic paper displays take the place of botanic nameplates and situate the sound garden in an environment of contemplation and reflection. The information in each display suggests a metaphysical atmosphere for a physical garden.
The visitor is invited to explore sounds, messages and micro-stories that travel through a garden, as pollen floats through air or seeds drop to the grass floor.
